In the shimmering waters of the Olympic pool, there aren’t too many swimmers who have made as significant a splash as Duncan Scott. As a cornerstone of Team GB, Duncan’s name has become synonymous with excellence, accolades and legacy. His record-breaking performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, saw him clinch the most medals ever won by a British athlete with 1 gold in the Men’s 4×200 Freestyle Relay and 3 silvers in the Men’s 200m Freestyle, Men’s 200m Individual Medley and Men’s 4x100m Medley Relay.
Tokyo 2020 was the culmination of years of hard work and success from Duncan Scott. This continued into 2022 as he claimed silver at the World Aquatic Championships in Budapest, whilst claiming both a gold and a silver medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games and European Aquatic Championships.
It’s safe to say Duncan Scott has no shortage of internal drive and motivation to keep winning, a mindset which brought him to our clinic in Glasgow to become an expert in his body and understand the marginal gains he can make to repeat history.
As proud sponsors of Team GB ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, we’re proud to be helping Duncan sail closer to more podium finishes in what looks to be an exciting & competitive year for swimming.
"I've discovered insights into areas of my health that I've never had data on before."
My test was hugely beneficial for me. The way I see it, if everything’s good, then it’s a good time to have done the test and you know that your situation is perfect just now but if it comes back that you’re a little deficient in Vitamin D, or if your iron levels are low, particualarly ferritin, then it’s also a positive that you’ve identified it now and are in a situation where you can rectify it.
At first, I went into it with an open mind with so many measurements being able to be taken and got excited because although I do get testing regularly with the likes of strength monitoring, altitude training etc, when I seen there were 150 different parameters, I simply thought the more the merrier.
Monitoring your health is so valuable especially when you’re trying to peak for a certain time and with the Olympic Games every 4 years, this level of monitoring every 6 months lets me see exactly what I want my health status to be before the games.
It excited me that it was essentially a head-to-toe MOT and there’s areas I’ve never really had much data on but also last year I had an IgE deficiency impacting my immune system which made training so inconsistent as some days I felt sluggish compared to this year which has been much more consistent after picking up on it which makes me wish I had something like this as if I did this last year or 24 months ago, it’d have been ideal going in unknown and then picking up on it as a risk rather than me getting frustrated and being ill.
Everything you do as a swimmer is being channelled through the window of your technique but there’s external factors such as nutrition, recovery, sleep that contribute those 1 percent’s towards how you’re going to be inside the pool when it matters the most. With that in mind, I think the the Randox Health Everyman check was spot-on and I’m really glad that I done it.
